Pass your Doubles Triples CDL Test

When you have successfully completed and passed your CDL General Knowledge test,  a much sought after designation to have is the Doubles Triples endorsement.  To pass the Doubles Triples CDL test will require a commitment on your part to study and learn the specialized skills necessary to haul these extra trailers.

Special care is always necessary when pulling two or three trailer.  Because you are hauling a longer and heavier payload, there are many things that can go wrong.  This is especially true since doubles and triples are inherently less stable than a normal commercial vehicle.

The Doubles and Triples CDL test will cover many aspects and areas pertaining to this endorsement.  Some of them will include:

  • Crack the Whip Effect
  • Inspection of the vehicle and trailers
  • Looking far enough ahead
  • Preventing trailers from rolling over
  • Managing Space
  • Driving in adverse conditions

Additionally, this test will cover Coupling and Uncoupling.  It is extremely important to know the correct procedures, as doing this incorrectly can cause serious injury to either yourself and/or the general public on the road.

One important thing to remember for sure is that the more heavily loaded semi-trailer must always be in the first position, directly behind the tractor.  The lighter trailer should always be in the last position.

Be sure to never unlock the pintle hook when the dolly is still under the rear trailer.  See the Member’s Bonus area for a Flash illustration demonstrating the location of key components of hooking and unhooking a double trailer with a converter dolly.

When inspecting a set of Doubles and Triples, you should use the seven step inspection procedure.  You can then continue your inspection as if inspecting a Combination Vehicle.  However, in the case of Doubles and Triples, there are some additional areas that you will need to check closely.

You should ensure that:

  • The shut-off valves (at the rear of the trailers in service and emergency lines) are OPEN for the rear of the front trailers.  CLOSED for the rear of the last trailer AND the Converter dolly air tank drain valve is CLOSED.
  • Ensure that the pintle-eye of the dolly is in place in the pintle hook of trailers.
  • Check to be sure that the air lines are supported and the glad hands are properly connected.
  • 4 other items

This examination will test many areas and several “test-takers” have reported that they have seen several tricky questions on this test.

That is where TestAnswers.com can help – we know exactly what you will see on your test and if you know what to expect on your test, you will not be studying and memorizing things that just don’t appear on the actual tests.  This will allow you to spend your valuable time studying only the specific areas that will be addressed on the test.
